Ah, my AW style heroes, the pieces I return to every winter no matter the trend of the season. This summer it was all frills, light blue shades and unsurprisingly – culottes – for me, and this winter, I’m thrilled to go back to faux fur, black jeans and copious amounts of knitwear. Add a vanilla chai latte to that, and you have one very happy (albeit stereotypical) blogger.
To coincide with the launch of their new AW ranges, Dorothy Perkins have asked a few bloggers to pull together a look featuring their style heroes. Style hero pieces are the key pieces for the season – pieces you can pick up, style and then restyle a hundred times over to compliment any outfit, on any occasion at any temperature! Style hero pieces are pieces that you go to when you’re in a panic and you hate your whole wardrobe and everything feels like that sad slogan tee knocking around on the floor of the Primark sale. And for me – especially when it comes to AW, there is only one real candidate for my standout style hero – faux fur.
SHOP THE LOOK:
Faux fur is something I over-indulge in every winter. Whether I’m hoarding it in scarf format or attempting to stuff numerous bulky faux fur coats onto my clothes rail, too much is never enough. From leopard print to teddy texture to ultra fluffy black numbers, a faux fur piece instantly lifts any outfit to a new level of glamour. FYI – if you’re heading to an airport anytime soon, don a faux fur coat and a pair of sunglasses and you might get a free Starbucks as an unrecognisable celeb. Worth a try right?
Here I’ve opted for a teddy type of fur in a bomber shape. Bombers are typically jackets that I tend to steer away from as I certainly do not work the sports luxe vibe very well (me in lycra would be enough to put King Curtis off of bacon and chicken nuggets for weeks), but reinvented in faux fur, the sports edge is softened and it becomes more about playing with texture. In terms of length, I think this would be really interesting paired over a split midi skirt with buckled boots if you wanted to dress the outfit up more.
MY FAUX FUR PICKS:
Moving down (there’s a dirty joke in there but this is a sponsored post so I’ll keep it PG), with the shift in colour palette that comes along with welcoming the AW pieces, I always tend to move from a light blue denim to a black denim. This pair are super high-waisted and extremely stretch which is great for Christmas tum, but if you’re fond of the Topshop Joni jeans but sick of them breaking, there are an ideal alternative and they are much kinder on the bank account. A denim skirt would work really well too, but statement belts are huge this season so whatever you choose, BELT UP.
And adding to my ever growing, never ceasing and endlessly lovely black bag collection, I picked up this gorgeous double compartment crossbody bag. With everybody losing their shit over the Celine trio, multiple compartment bags have become big business and this DP piece is ultra-sleek with minimal branding which I think is super important for duping high end. It’s also called a toaster bag, and since I basically am a soft white medium loaf, I was hardly going to turn it down.
