So we’ve hit mid Jan, we’ve all indulged in one too many Dominoes (she says glancing at the leftover pizza boxes on the floor whilst simultaneously considering inhaling a slice) and it’s about time we got our acts together and started taking care of our skin. The cold weather, the booze and the one too many Terry’s chocolate oranges means our skin is not looking fresh at this time of the year, but thank God, Pixi have come to our rescue. As a girl that admittedly uses micellar water, some baby wipes and a lil’ bit of moisturiser, I’ve never been one for skincare routines. I always thought that I didn’t have the time or the patience, but I swear to freakin’ God, I am converted. MY SKIN FEELS SO GOOD AND IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER. And how relaxing is it taking 20 minutes out of your day to really go through a skincare routine? Ugh yaaaas. In order to get my glow back, Pixi sent across these beaut products (listed in the order that I have been using them):
Glow Peel Pads* – Advanced exfoliating treatment pads to reveal a glowing, youthful-looking complexion. Whenever I’ve been feeling like my skin needs some extra TLC I’ve employed the use of these little miracle pads. They’re exfoliating, but the great thing about them is that they aren’t bitty in any way. I don’t get on with exfoliators because I hate the feeling of sand scratching away the top surface of my skin, but these are super gentle yet super effective. Your skin does sting a little bit whilst you let the residue develop for 2-3 minutes (I know I’m not the only person that loves this), but you’re left feeling silky soft after you shortly wipe off with warm water.
Glow Mud Mask* – A purifying, glow-revealing clay mask to purify & balance skin – it’s our signature 15-minute facial! It’s been a long day, you’ve had enough of Janine’s crap and it’s time to get your treat on. Cue the Pixi Glow Mud mask. I tend to shy away from masks because I’m lazy and once it’s on, it ends up being on for 3 and a half hours (or however long a series of Bob’s Burgers is), but this one really tickles my fancy. It goes on like a dream and blends over the skin really well, and there isn’t any painful cracking or itching once it starts to dry.
Glow Mud Cleanser* – A deep pore cleansing mud that gently exfoliates while purifying for radiant skin. The cleanser I’ve been using the least out of the two, but only because I’m so obsessed with the balm. I love this one for when I have a little extra time, because it has a gentle exfoliating quality which works wonders when properly massaged into the skin. Leaves you feeling super clean and soft, plus anything mud-based is always a winner for me.
Nourishing Cleansing Balm* (BEST CLEANSER EVER) – A gentle cleansing balm that removes all traces of makeup as it nourishes, leaving skin silky-soft. Not sure if the bracketed screaming gave it away, but this is literally my favourite cleanser of all time. I’d never used a balm before, but this literally goes on your skin like silk and leaves you feeling fucking amazing. It cleans, it moisturises and I cannot stress how unbelievably soft it is. My housemate Ellena is a skincare addict, tried this and was sold straight away. If you’re going to buy anything from this haul, the Nourishing Cleansing Balm should be it.
Hydrating Milky Serum* – A revitalizing boost for skin that intensely hydrates while it protects & improves elasticity. Serums usually make me break out BIG TIME, but I’ve been using this AM and PM every day and I’ve noticed my skin is brighter, my redness is reduced and my make-up goes on a lot smoother. The only annoying thing is that the applicator is a squeezy drop tool thing and it doesn’t pick up or release as much product as you’d like, but once you get the serum on it’s is so lovely that you end up not really caring.
Glowtion Day Dew* – A lightweight, radiance-boosting moisturizer that soothes while blurring imperfections & giving a lit-from-within glow. I guess this comes under the umbrella of illuminating primer, and that’s something I’m always on board with. Engaging in proper skincare is great, but sometimes you just want an extra hit to add the glow when you ain’t go no glow anymo (i.e. if you’re like me and you eat crap and don’t drink enough water and you need extra help to look ok). Popping this on before make-up makes my skin look fresher and more alive, and gives the high points of my face a sassy sheen that is not to be taken for granted. For once, this is also great to wear without make-up. No giant chunks of glitter to be found.
Glow Mist* – All-over glow mist for a radiant, dewy effect. I love mists and facial sprays because I think they’re super refreshing, and this one certainly hits the mark. I give myself a few spritzes before applying make-up just to freshen up my skin, and then a few after to stop it from looking too powdery and to chase that dewy glow. I keep this on hand at all times because if you’re feeling a bit tired or a bit groggy, a few sprays of this instantly perks you up. Love love love.
Lash Line Ink* (BEST LINER EVER) – Waterproof liquid liner pen for super smooth, easy application and lush-looking lashes. After applying my foundation, concealer, brows and shadow, it was time for liner. You guys know that I wear eyeliner every day, and so it’s become a pretty big deal in beauty regime. I’ve tried all sorts of liners, from gels to liquids to pens to pots, and I thought I was pretty happy with my Rimmel Gel number. Well, until now. This is the blackest liner I’ve tried in ages, and it goes on like a dream. It’s smooth, it doesn’t dry out and it glides over the lid and out into a flick super easily. Best of all, it stays put! No flaking or smudging here. If you’re in it for the beauty bits, buy this or regret forevs.
Lengthy Fiber Mascara* – Enhance & elongate lashes with this fiber-filled mascara. Next up, mascara. I like my lashes long and black, and this mascara certainly lives up to the job. As with any new mascara it took a few coats to get me to the intensity I was happy with, but I really like the formula and though I’m normally a fan of plastic brushes, I quite like the effect that this one has.
Lash Booster Mascara in Bluest Black* – A do-it-all mascara that curls, defines, lengthens and thickens with a glossy, waterproof finish. I have yet to use this as I’m always hesitant of coloured mascaras, but the reviews alone are building it up to be quite a winner. The blue colour is supposed to make the whites of your eyes even whiter, helping you achieve a wide awake look, so I shall report back and let you know if it lives up to the hype.
Book of Beauty – Touch of Blush* – An easy-to-use palette that instantly enlivens cheeks with a touch of colour! A book of anything make-up related is always exciting, although blusher is probably the last thing I would have chosen. More fool me, because I hadn’t realised how much a pop of the right colour blush can lift your complexion. I opted for the peachiest shade to compliment the upcoming lipstick, but I’ve been loving using the deeper shades for soft contour and experimenting with the intensity of shades. If you want a be-all-and-end-all set of blushers, you can’t go wrong with this.
Mattelustre Lipstick in Peach Blossom* – Full-coverage, adjustable-finish lipstick for long lasting, vivid lip colour with a plumping effect. Lipstick is probably the thing I get the funniest about when it comes to cosmetics. I hate people choosing shades for me, because I really feel that very colours suit me. When I opened this in my Pixi package, I was 100% sure I wasn’t going to like it. Turns out I’ve been wearing it nearly every day since. It dries sem-matte but it still super hydrating, and the light wash of colour perks up your skin and ties the whole look together. I’m sold and I’ll be picking up a few more colours A$AP Rocky.
