As a 22 year old who has just finished uni and is now starting to save in an urgent bid to move out, when I buy new pieces for my wardrobe, I need to be sure that they are versatile. Getting my money’s worth is pretty important when it comes to shopping – even if it seems like a fairly statement piece, I’ll always think about the different ways I can restyle it over a season to prevent it gathering dust in my wardrobe. Whilst in the winter I often just throw on the same oversized jumper and murder anybody that dares to question my outfit repeating, with events and occasions popping up throughout the summer, it requires a little more creativity.
Whether you’re baffled about what you should wear to your distant cousin’s wedding or want to know how to nail cute but casual at your annual work BBQ, New Look have recently launched their Occasion Hub to help with all of your summer styling dilemmas. I haven’t been invited to a wedding since I was about 8 years old because, clearly, I have no friends (you’re all missing out guys), so I decided to go down the ‘day-to-night’ route, opting for a central staple piece – the nude wrap skirt – and styling around it to take you from AM to PM.
Daytime
For the day time, I paired the skirt with a thin knit black tee and cool girl round sunglasses. In keeping with the shoe of the season, I popped on some leopard print block heeled shoes to up the sass factor and inject a little variety into an otherwise simple outfit (something that I love, anyway). Rounding off the look, I kept my hair straight but textured and accentuated with sterling silver jewellery wherever I could. Et voila – an outfit casual enough for the day time, but amped up enough for an afternoon BBQ party.
Nighttime
Transitioning the skirt into the evening, I swapped out the simple tee and opted for a tight fitted crop Bardot, with frill detailing to boot. Not only is this piece on trend, it’s also simple enough to become a staple wardrobe piece, perfect for topping off skirts just like this for an extra oomph that isn’t going to steal the limelight. Since this is a nighttime look, heels were essential. I went for a tie up pointed toe – black, of course – with faux fur pom pom details that nod to the previous animal themed footwear. For a little extra added glam, I pulled my hair into a sleek and shiny low pony and let the silver jewellery do the talking.
