What do you want to have achieved in a year? What about 3, or 5, or even 10? I like to plan in the short term (as in what am I doing this Saturday night short term), and career-wise I know the direction I’m heading in, but real, established goals? I’d certainly never written them down. I recently popped down to the newly opened kikki.K store in Covent Garden, and they were kind enough to gift me this beautiful baby peach ‘Dream Big Journal’. Separated into 1, 3, 5 and 10 year sections, the pages offer you the space to write down your ultimate life goals and dreams. I’m soon to finish university, so at this hugely transitional stage of my life, there didn’t seem like a more perfect time to both reflect and look forward. Seizing the opportunity to show off this beautiful kikki.K stationery and a glimpse of the new store, I’ve decided to share a few of my personal goals with you. Hopefully this gets you thinking about your big dreams too – feel free to pop them down below in the comments so I can reassure myself that I’m not the only one with dog-related wishes!
1 Year Dream: Visit Iceland with Joe. See the Northern Lights. Go to the whale museum. Expand my travel blogging experience! My brother and I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights so Iceland has been on our wishlist for years. They’re most visible from November – February, so we’re planning to go late November this year, to the capital of Reykjavik specifically. I always love a winter trip to break up the monotony of dark mornings and dark evenings and long, cold days; last winter I went to Berlin (Joe had been the year before), and my brother and I haven’t been on holiday together in forever, so I’m really looking forward to this. There’s also a whale museum, so go figure. Hopefully I’ll be going on a few weekend trips this year and I really want to expand my travel blogging experience, so keep your peepers peeled for a lil’ bit of globe-trotting!
3 Year Dream: Go to Firefly Festival in America. (Failing that, Coachella is okay I guess.) This year Mumford and Sons, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Kings of Leon, Wet, Florence and The Machine, Tame Impala and Two Door Cinema Club (to mention a few haha) are there. Firefly Festival in Denver is like my dream festival – it has all of my favourite bands, it’s halfway across the world and it will be hot. Only problem is it’s expensive as fuck to get there and so would require some serious saving. Hopefully in three years I will partying it up in ‘Murica!
5 Year Dream: To have ticked off the following destinations… Budapest, Croatia, Prague, Paris (again and again), Bali, New Zealand, Verdon Gorge in France, Bora Bora, Rome, Venica, Florence etc. and the Maldives. I love travelling, but being a student with little to zero cash, getting to places like Bora Bora is pretty much impossible. This list was tough to write because I want to go everywhere, but I managed to narrow it down to the destinations that I’ve Lonely Planet stalked the shit out of. Still, the list is pretty extensive so I’ve given myself 5 years of time, saving and spending to tick all of these bad boys off. (Just realised that I didn’t pop Iceland and Denver on here so the list is even longer ffs.)
10 Year Dream: Rescue 3 dogs! What do I really want in 10 years?! To be married? Have children? I think so, but 10 years isn’t actually that far away, and if it hasn’t happened by then, then no biggie. I do, however, want to own my own home and have lots of rescue doggies. Hopefully I will be self-employed and work from home, so they can distract me all day long. Old doggies need new homes too! Marriage, they asked?! Kids, they asked?! No, she cried! DOGS! I was very clear with myself that I didn’t want my dreams to revolve around the stereotypical life events of find a boyfriend, buy a house, get married, have kids and go on yearly holidays to the same place. That’s never been the life I’ve wanted. I’m very fickle and it’s easy for me to change my mind, so the only thing I can be sure of at this point is that I fucking love dogs and I want to rescue a shit ton of them. Other than that, being self-employed, living in a house with lots of cushions and owning a Starbucks coffee machine are all very desirable 10 year goals for me.
