[ad - press sample] A little snapshot from last summer 💛🌿🌼 I know we have the semi-hope that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and the sun is starting to shine, and one day soon(ish) we will be able to lose ourselves in fun again, but it’s not making this end bit any easier, is it? I feel like everything is speeding up and onwards and towards some big “return to normality”, but we’re still living the same lives we were two weeks ago, a little bit lonely and definitely doom-scrolling. What a strange momentum to feel as if you’re constantly moving but impossibly stuck at the same time.

Approximately how many freedom outfits have you planned so far? 🌝🪴 The consensus in the girls’ chat this morning is that clubs, queues and crazy crowds can wait; what we’re really looking forward to is finally being able to spend time together, preferably in a park with the glow of the summer sun kissing the backs of our necks.

A couple of group circles over, someone will be playing music from a pair of Bluetooth speakers. The cool breeze brings with it smells of smoke and mown grass and hot sun on earth. Conversation and laughter buzz around like happy bees and almost as if you’re smack bang in the middle of the most pleasant tornado ever, there is a peace in the hedonistic momentum around you.

💭... Every day is one step closer. And I’m almost certain that I’ll be wearing a hat.

1 top, 3 ways 🌝✨ Last year I decided I wanted to really cut back on my clothes consumption and as such, I’ve had a lot less new items coming in to dress up with. Naturally this has nudged me more towards finding my core styles - the firm favourites which fly in the face of *gasp*outfit repeating *gasp* - as well as encouraging me to experiment more with what I already own.

This long-sleeve top is a fast fashion buy from a few years back. If I’m being honest, I could see myself having got rid of it if I was still buying multiple new clothing items every month, simply because something fresher and fancier would have stolen my attention. That’s definitely one of the benefits of cutting down on what you buy: finding unexplored ways to reinvent the same thing. Kind of like finding new ways to make Friday evening interesting after repeating the same week for almost a year. 🌝

[ad @itsourremedy] Have you tried CBD before? Before you answer, quick sciencey bit! 🧬 CBD and THC are two different cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are able to bind to receptors in your body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) and this can affect how we feel.

Cautiously optimistic or full of doubt? On the roadmap scale, where about a do you fall?

I know it’s probably a little foolish to get our hopes up but I’m indulging mine for the time being. Winter in lockdown has been fucking gross and after a year of no light at the end of the tunnel, a little whisper of possibility makes a world of difference. This Groundhog-Day-existence feels less like a hamster wheel and more like that a 4000m race on sports day: still fucking gross but at least it ends, at some point. And I’ll stop wearing loungewear.

I understand the reservations and I think most other people entertaining a little shred of premature joy do too, but 🤷‍♀️ why not set our eyes on the beacon of hope on the horizon?

I am *very excited* to be sharing with you my latest column for @aureliamagazine, in which I dig into The Big Cry - the vulnerable, hungry, ugly one which we fear and revere in equal measure. Given the past year I’m willing to guess that you’re as accustomed to The Big Cry as I am (although you might be better at dealing with it), so I hope you find something that speaks to you here.

This piece of writing actually started its life as a poem and it’s a little more.. creative? than my last column. I hope you enjoy it (and I hope you don’t cry 💀)!
